Press Release
We are proud to announce that Trailstone has joined the 24/7 Carbon-free Energy Compact, a global initiative to accelerate the transition to a carbon-free electricity sector created in partnership with Sustainable Energy for All and UN Energy. By joining the compact, Trailstone joins policymakers, large energy users and other clean energy companies in pledging to follow a set of principles and actions to drive systemic change to achieve a fully decarbonized electricity sector.
The 24/7 Carbon-free Energy Compact, was formally launched in September 2021 ahead of the COP26 conference. The compact strives to meet every kilowatt-hour of electricity consumption with carbon-free electricity sources on the same local and regional grids, around the clock. This goes beyond common methods of reaching 100% renewable energy targets by offsetting fossil fuel use with renewable energy credits (RECs) created from renewable energy generated in other locations. Moving toward a 24/7 Carbon-free electricity system will help to lower carbon emissions further by ensuring that even times of peak demand are covered with 100% renewable energy, as opposed to calling on fossil fuel powered “peaker plants” to supply any energy shortfalls.
Large amounts of renewable energy development are still needed to make 24/7 Carbon-free Energy possible. In order to achieve this goal, signatories commit to developing and scaling energy policies, technologies, procurement practices, and solutions to transform the broader energy ecosystem to enable rapid and cost-effective achievement of carbon-free energy for all. Trailstone’s risk management services and our proprietary optimization platform, which uses robust weather models, data analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to better predict renewable energy supply and optimize returns for renewable asset owners, are already helping to accelerate the development of renewable energy across the globe, and will help asset owners manage increasing complexity and market volatility as we move towards a 24/7 Carbon-free Energy system.
“We are proud to become members of the 24/7 Carbon-free Energy Compact, which perfectly aligns with our mission to accelerate the clean energy transition,” said Trailstone CEO John Redpath. “We look forward to helping to achieve the goals of the compact by supporting renewable asset owners and grid operators as they manage the increasing complexity, and to ensure the reliability,of a 24/7 Carbon-free electric grid.”
In addition to providing services that accelerate the clean energy transition, Trailstone is dedicated to reducing carbon emissions in our own activities. To help achieve this, we track all areas of our business where CO2 emissions are created, including the power we use in our offices, business travel and the commuting patterns of our employees. We are looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint, not just offset the emissions we create.
